Making a Difference is What It's All About!

Using life itself to create new life.

Follow Up Ministries is built on volunteers — ordinary plain-wrapper, church-going Christians who love God folks who also show their love by serving Him. But not every ready Christian can find exciting and important mission work — the "doors" aren't always open, even when we want to serve.

We want to make you a special offer. If you're a sincere Christian in good church standing, who knows something about the Bible, then we have a wonderful opportunity for you. If you're up to it, we want to enlist you in spending a few hours each week (or month) helping folks who can't help themselves. And these are very unusual "folks!" It's a very unusual "home mission" field.

These people are lost! Society says, "Thumbs down!" Their families say, "Thumbs down!" They even look at each other and say, "Thumbs down!" their self-confidence level is zero! They live in a totally "Thumbs down" world — the world of incarceration.

These are jailbirds, convicts, prisoners, detainees, wards, con's, hard-timers, lifers, 3-strikers — you name it! But whatever the label, they are human being who have classified untouchable, unlovable, undesirable, and to-be-forgotten by all of society.

They are the "Samaritans" of our 20th Century world. Jesus told us to go to them! Jesus told us to make them a focus of our love for Him. Jesus told us to become "missionaries" — folks carrying out the Great Co-mission. That's a pretty big order, even today. Here are a few facts:

Our prisons and jails are a "growth" industry — seven to ten percent a year, "compounded." We are investing billions in our criminal justice system.
Most people in prison will get out soon — the average stay in California is only 21-months. It's more like a short "vacation" in fact.
Prison will not change a person's basic mind-set — if criminal IN, then criminal OUT! That means that when they get out, our sons and daughters are still at risk from their marauding and predation.

Jesus Christ can change their lives — He has proven it many, many times! The Gospel is real, and their sordid lives are wide open to His message of love and reconciliation.
But He needs "arms and legs" to do it — that's where you and I come in! He could do it Himself, but He doesn't. He needs the "beautiful feet" of preachers and teachers to lead His children out of darkness. He needs you (image of Uncle Sam pointing directly at you).
Somewhere near you, a prison Chaplain needs help that you can give! God has prepared you. As a maturing Christian, you may the only one He can send. Your "availability" is more important than your skills or knowledge, because God's Holy Spirit can provide both if you're there in the "arena" with Him. But you have to walk out there — He's not going to drag you!
Prisoners are hungry for Christian input — many are desperately seeking help! The hunger for spiritual nourishment has never been greater. It's an incredible experienced to be used of God in this environment, to discover the sensation of being used mightily as a vessel of His healing and edifying love. His power to change life is awesome!
